I know what we did last summer

Since Memorial Day, I've posted nearly 750 items... and, for as quickly as the summer seemingly passed by, looking back at some of these things from the summer seems like years ago...

Let's go back to Memorial Day weekend... and work our way to Labor Day... here are a few items from the last three months...

Ben's Deli is temporarily closed for renovations

Ben's Deli is now temporarily closed for renovations here at 32 Avenue B between Second Street and Third Street. 

This was expected after longtime owner Ben Gibran sold the business earlier this year to a cousin, Sammy Ksem. 

The shop, expected to be closed for two to three months, will still go by Ben's Deli. 

Here's a look at the last night... as the shelves were thinned out ...

You can also expect the return of the excellent in-store vendor Los Tacos Poca Madre...

On the last night, Haas was behind the counter...

... as well as Ben, making a rare return to this spot where he greeted generations of customers...

We still hope to see Ben on the block from time to time...

NYPD seeking duo who have burglarized 9 East Village businesses

The NYPD is seeking two men they say have burglarized 10 businesses, nine in the East Village, over the past few months. 

According to published reports, the suspects have taken more than $15,000 in cash and electronics between March and June from the businesses — eight restaurants and one salon.

Per The Daily Mail, "In each case, one of the crooks would burst through the front door after dark, and steal cash, electronic equipment, or both."

The NYPD released this video clip of the suspects during the most recent break-in — 10 p.m. on June 24 at Sammy's Halal, 109 First Ave. between Sixth Street and Seventh Street...

Per media accounts: Police described both suspects as men with light complexions between 40 and 60 years of age, standing between 5 feet 9 inches and 6 feet tall, and weighing about 190 pounds.
