In the midst of a global financial meltdown, Key Food raises the price of Pabst

EV Grieve reader Kyle Robertson notes the following: In what might be a recognition of the new cashed- up hipster elite, Key Food on Avenue A and 4th Street recently increased their price for a six pack of PBR from $3.60 to $4.99! That seems to be a lot more than just adjusted for inflation.

This is cause for another hard-hitting investigative report!

So. Schaefer is also $4.99.

As for as six packs go, the next cheapest (or, less expensive) options ... Natural Ick Ice is $4.79.

And Milwaukee's Best Premium is $3.99.

There you have it. Now what?

It is down right irresponsible, and dare I say UNAMERICAN to raise the price of Schaefer in such trying economic times.

I was told a few days ago at Doc's that Pabst had doubled their wholesale price so Doc's no lomger sell Pabst. Its advantage was price to be honest .

It's bizarre b/c Key Food has REALLY good prices on other beers. Their prices on Konig, Radeberge (22oz), London Pride, and a few others is cheaper than any other place in the neighborhood.

Whatever happened to Meister Brau? It was my cheap beer of choice when I first moved here and was broke. I used to get six packs of that horrible brew for $1.99 back then.

I think the 6 pack of the pint sized cans of PBR is still 7.99, which is how I've been getting by since this criminal price increase.

those must be artisanal pbrs...with electrolytes!

still prefer them zimas [not really]

Milwaukee's Best is better than PBR IMO... agreed, the price Key charges for the 22oz. Radeberger is pretty crazy-cheap. First time I saw it I thought it must be a mistake. But no! (Hope they aren't reading this).

Late finding this post. But just glad to see another place where Schaefer continues to be sold. Can't get it in much of the US anymore. I know the Spring Lounge, I-Bar & Dino's BBQ near Harlem still sell it. And I've bought it in East Newark during my infrequent trips to NY/NJ. Now you've given me another place to shop for it when in the area.
