Meanwhile, on 38th Street...

Dave on 7th was on 38th Street earlier... where he figured there must be some logical reason why somebody put this meter in the middle of the sidewalk.

They moved it out of the bike lane and put it there so Casey Neistat wouldn't ride into it.

That's insane. Even the normal placement of these boxes obstruct the sidewalks far too much, especially in the Village, where sidewalks are too narrow, and already cluttered with signs, meters, newspaper boxes, trash cans, etc etc. Long ago, the city narrowed sidewalks, clearly promoting cars in favor of humans. It's time to reverse the trend. Sidewalks should be widened again in the city, beginning with the East Village, where one can hardly pass another person on 7th street.

I bet it was put there because all those trucks in the Garment district that actually use that curb space were always knocking down the Muni Meters. Notice the 2 large yellow balusters in front of it.
