[Updated] Report: Fire at Flea Market Cafe on Avenue A this afternoon

That's the word from Patrick Hedlund at DNAinfo, who reports that a small fire started inside the cafe near St. Mark's Place this afternoon. The fire broke out while the restaurant was closed. The FDNY had the blaze under control in less than 25 minutes. Paramedics treated one firefighter at the scene for minor injuries, according to DNAinfo.

This is my favorite restaurant too, our default place. Plus, the owners are a lovely local soccer loving family. I hope the damage wasn't too much

I am glad everyone is safe and the restaurant only suffered small damage and will be able to reopen. People always look like they are having fun here. Another soccer lover too. Reopen soon!!

A lot of brass there for a "routine" fire.

definitely something more than routine here. the was a uniformed officer out front all day and two nypd crime scene trucks have been there for a few hours now.
