Are you sure this isn't performance art?
Really? Was it necessary to take a picture of this person? Was there a need to post this picture?
"Poor guy". How doe they know he's a poor guy. Looks to me like he's a smart guy. That's what smart guys do. Count their pennies, not blow them on $8 beers at Oktoberfest.
So he is a saver that may have this afternoon off of work... yawn.
Not sure who owns the city but it definitely isn't Citi, might be bankrupt before too long....
Agreed. Yes, times are tough but maybe he's cashing in a lot of pennies for the simple fact that he has a lot of pennies. I have a lot of pennies that I haven't cashed in but I haven't gotten myself together to organize all of these pennies like this gentleman did (pennies).
Maybe hes saving up to get another brand new pair of white sneakers.
Kinda with 4:33 on this one. You don't know anything about this guy, but his assumed plight is an interesting talking point and he's anonymous enough to photograph at a time when he might just want to be left the fuck alone.Seriously, if times ARE tough, then why is so much of this web-site about the relative discomforts of a privileged urban (largely white, largely educated and middle class) when their richer cousins move in and buy out their apartments? We spend HOURS debating the virtues of (essentially) one boutique coffee joint over another, one artisan luxury over its more commodified competitor, and the E.V. of the projects along D go ignored. Somebody sees a picture of a guy counting pennies in a bank and feels entitled to "Comment". Good luck, kids. When it takes David fucking Schwimmer to make you feel righteous, you've already lost the battle.
TD bank has free counting machines.
The change counting machines used to be free. Now the banks charge you for the "service". Counting and rolling your own pennies is the result for some people. Coinstar takes around 9%. TD bank has machines, but if you don't have an account they will charge you for the service. Citibank likely charges, too. Banks suck.
you don't have to wrap up coins anymore. just give a bag of coins to the teller and they'll deposit it for free
Which bank does that?
Anonymous at 6:17!!! YES!! This blog has so many inane complaints now. Why do people litter? Why is there more violence? Why do people not like Starbucks? Why not support ...? Why are there rats? When did they arrive here? Do rats have feelings? Am I a rat? Yes, but you don't walk out your door and see this .... Why can't I afford to live uptown? Why can't I afford to live in the really cool places like Tribeca? Westside? Am I cool enough? Can I buy comfort? Can I buy? Send the homeless to the churches where I never know they exist. They might be cleaner. Someone should surely clean up this mess! I mean that's what a church is for. LOL. I doubt that anyone even reflects on the points they raise anymore. I gotta go count my pennies now. Cat food is too damn expensive!! Lucie Gato
Anonymous at 6:17 I doubt that these privileged urban are largely educated. They may have college diplomas, or bought their college diplomas, but educate they're not. See that post about the U of Michigan alums searching for a roommate.
