Well this sucks. Everyone OK? We got hit pretty hard, but we're fine. No power. Internet. Online poker. 3G. Etc.
Stayed behind to help out some neighbors in flood-damaged apartments. If all goes well, then I'll be back tommorrow with photos, updates and Zoltar.
Be well.

Thanks for letting us know that you're OK.
Glad you're okay!! I was so worried when I checked the site and there were no updates from you!
I'm camping out in the E.Vil. I'm happy, there is no noise from the restaurants! The Stage was serving last evening, those guys are simply the best. Little herds in front of the starbucks trying to get wifi, my faves are the people who try to recharge their devices off the cleaner outlets in the ATM kiosks. I am concerned about the seniors in the area, they can't walk far to get food, and there's no place to refill meds.
Thanks for posting this update, it's good to know that you're doing okay. My thoughts are with you and all my East Coast friends, stay safe and I hope this passes as quickly as it can.
glad to hear you are fine. was worried there for a bit. Looking forward to your catch up
EV Grieve LIVES. Welcome back.
anyone hear from coned/nyc about power restoration time frame?
anyone in e.vill/abc have power restored?
coned's website and nyc.gov have not been much help.
1010 wins said up to 10 days - that's too wide a range, and hopefully super pessimistic.
anyone?
hi,
know any charities/places to donate to help the ev?
thanks!
Hope all is well.
Up until the point when we lost power the idiots were still out jogging on the sidewalks.
I suppose that in a historic disaster one should continue to be as narcissistic as possible.
Stock Markets back up.
I was over at Baruch last evening. They were running on back up emergency power, but then they lost all power. It was a very dangerous situation. They ran out of supplies for people, it was entirely disorganized, passive security, people were screaming, throwing chairs at each other, one of the security guys got into a fist fight with a guy who was staying there, but as it turned out the guy was in the military so he took the security guy down to the floor and then the security guy changed his tune and went back to his post. All of this because the security guy made a few racial slurs.
Monday night our new residents were out wandering the streets and drinking when the lights went out. In fact when the lights went out I actually heard some woo woos.
They weren't woo wooing Tuesday morning, when their little gadgets weren't working and they realized Starbucks, Papa John's, Destination, Drop-off service, the Yucca Bar and all the other shitholes they frequent were closed.
Then Tuesday morning and again this morning Rocky saw more yuppies, fratties and yunnies with their stupid little luggage bags hailing cabs to head to their stupid little friends houses north of the dmz, then I usually see in line outside Momofuko or Artichoke Pizza.
The best thing that could happen for all of us is if they stay uptown for good.
con ed just said EV = friday or saturday (on twitter)
Oh grieve I was worried! Good to hear from ya. Anyone know why we don't have phone service? I'm on the other side of the wburg bridge just to get a signal
If you have any type of internet based phone service (including vonage) it will not work if you do not have power. If you have the old regular landline system, built by the best engineers in the world, it will still work if you do not have regular power.
Glad to see that even in times like this we can still complain about one another.
well we are a worrying bunch..coz i was getting a little nervous at the lack of news too! good to hear you're ok and thanks for the update.
Glad to hear you are alright grieve, I'm bunkered in stuytown, water comes and goes, no power or cell but I walked north to meet my girl at work and a sweet, sweet taste of interwebs. About 29th and park is where service kicks in, just in case anyone out there has loved ones they need to communicate with
Heard the wooing as well....it was coming from my long term resident and middle aged neighbors. I was just glad to hear people in the EV were doing OK.
yeah there were the usual douchy people across the street, acting like they were having a party with their flashlights on monday night.
i still have a landphone but cordless! should have kept my old touchtone desktop phone..oh well.
stay well everyone.
Walk to a cafe or hotel north of 34th st or 42nd st to charge yr phone. BRING A POWER STRIP. This helps others and will get you to the front of the line quicker. Coned says power on btwn Fri afternoon and Sat afternoon. Subways running at 6am tomorrow Thursday from 42nd st. Northward.
There's power above 39th st - I've been a refugee on the upper east side for a couple days now. Never liked uptown; but I gotta say it's done me a solid this week.
39 st is the DMZ in this case, atho water flowed to 1st ave in the 50's as well.
We have no heat because a gas boiler still has electric ignition...Sucks...even hot water is off.
Luck the bldg is too short to need an elevator
Surviving, nonetheless
People are dead, homes are destroyed and you lot still complain about yunnies and wooing. You should be ashamed.
lowereastside.recovers.org may be of help for those with needs, who want to donate or to volunteer. Hope this helps.

Oh Rocky Raccoon...a fond remembrance of why I,eventually, left the EV. Enjoy your life of constant judgement based on a myopic view.
Get a car battery, generator... Or something. I need my EVG fix! :)
Glad your ok!
Best of luck for your plans.
Stay Safe!
I am amazed by what is defined as "roughing it". Three/four days without power and cold food and showers. Not the hardest thing in the world to cope with. How soft are we anyhow.
Worried about seniors though.
All underground serviced areas should be up by late Saturday per ConEd. Given they want to over deliver after this type of fiasco, expect late Friday.
BT: Now I'm kind of sorry I cancelled my AOL dial-up account about 10 years ago...
Con Ed has been impressive. They seem to be doing Yeoman's work, particular if they have power back in the EV by Saturday.
Yay Grieve! Glad you are ok. :)
wait a minute...
ONLINE POKER????
Spill the beans, I've been fiending ever since the crackdown.
@anon 10;47 and East Village Yuppie hater - So my childhood home where I grew up was swept away by Sandy; Monday night and all day Tuesday I was at the Baruch Shelter feeding people and tending to their needs. My uncle's home is wiped out and he still hasn't been evacuated. My co-workers home in SI was swept away. I am sleeping in an apartment many floors up with no lights, no heat, no hot water, no phone service and lost all the food in my fridge. I got above the DMZ to get internet access to check on the grieve and lend a little levity to a horrible situation that I witnessed first-hand. How dare you sit in judgement of me, for trying to make those of us who love "grieving" on the grieve perhaps smile a bit. To EV Yuppie Hater - do me a favor stay wherever you are and keep your friends with you. If you want to do something yourself, instead of trashing me go volunteer at CB 3 to help our neighbors stranded in NYCHA and the senior housing.
Long Live Alphabet City and Loisada.
i don't see how my 10:47 post was aimed at you in any way. i was just asking grieve about his online poker comment. you aren't the only one going thru a hard week that will have long lasting effects on your life. chill out.
my mistake, i see now you were directing at anon 10:47 PM
Catching up on my reading now ... Rocky Raccoon, you are the very best, xoxo
