Even an empty 34 Avenue A is upsetting neighbors
34 Avenue A has been focal point for criticism since Aces & Eights opened in the spring of 2009... Then, of course, came the drama with the various restaurant-bar-performance space proposals... In August, "for rent" signs went up here.
On Saturday morning, Dave on 7th spotted the following Urban Etiquette Sign outside 34 Avenue A... (EV Grieve reader Matt also sent us photos ...)
So what's going on? Debra Stelnik, a broker for Coldwell Banker, told me this weekend via email that the space is still for lease.
If the noise came from the tenants upstairs, then you'd think the sign leaver would have placed the note to the left on their entrance... Theories? Ideas?
In any event, here is the rental info for the main floor and basement...

My dear neighbor. We by all means shall all be delighted if you would consider refraining from enjoying the roof upon further request

Neighbors leave first Urban Etiquette Sign for UCBeast
Three weeks have passed since the Upright Citizens Brigade opened up their new theater/comedy club at Third Street and Avenue A...
And we have our first noise complaint, spotted on the East Third Street side...
In part, "Look around you. There are apartment buildings with people trying to get a few hours sleep. Start being a good neighbor and tell to those people to keep their voices down and stop blocking the sidewalk."
Well, this has quickly turned into a comedy of manners. (Offt!)

Today in passive-aggressive notes on East Fourth Street
We watched the woman place this on the door of 234 E. Fourth St. between Avenue A and Avenue B (Madonna's old building!) earlier this evening ... "To the guys that applauded my parking job (you live on the top floor). Thank you! It totally made my day — I had a really long day at work!"

A note for the person who bled all over the stairs
EV Grieve reader Marisa found this instant classic Urban Etiquette Sign at the top of the stairs of a Second Avenue apartment building... As you can see, someone is bleeding all over the stairs and not remembering to clean it up (with bleach).
Is this too much to ask?

A note about feeding the rats on East 10th Street
EV Grieve reader Ann noticed this sign in the dirt on East 10th Street just east of Third Avenue.... As she notes," I don't know if the corn was being fed to the rats ... it also looks like it's holding the sign down. Confusing!" True!

An Urban Etiquette Stoop Sign
We spotted this Urban Etiquette Sign recently under a sidewalk shed on the tree-lined 10th Street between Second Avenue and Third Avenue (AKA, Central Village)...
Perhaps the sign worked, because we spotted this fellow taking a nap a few stoops away...

Yo landlord!
We spotted a classic Urban Etiquette Sign under the gate at the coming-soon Upright Citizens Brigade on East Third Street ...
It's about the air conditioning unit. "Please have this piece of crap repaired, replaced or turn it off!"
Signed by "the people that live here and have to listen to that crappy A/C"

A letter for the 'mail delivery person'
Over on East Fourth Street, there seems to be an issue with leaving mail for a building. There may be a new key for the building, one which the mail carrier doesn't seem to have now. But residents insist that the same key will work!
This sign sent along by Jeremy sums it up...
However, if you read the fine print, the "mail person" disagrees, writing that "you will get your mail when I get a key." And just to show that the mail person isn't nuts, he or she has a witness! "The guy in the restaurant saw me try the key. It doesn't work." But, but... just turn the key upside down!
In any event, building residents haven't received any mail this week... Can another urban etiquette note be far behind?
