If you live on Avenue B between Second Street and Fourth Street, you likely heard the prep work taking place at 6:30 am today for "Step Up 3D." The delightful BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP of the trucks backing up, moving into position for — perhaps! — a big dance number that will happen during a convenient rainstorm.
And I wonder what Avenue B will look in in 3D?

Beginning this weekend, Axe is trying to appeal to New York area pick-up artists with a new venture: it is sponsoring a Hamptons nightclub for the entire summer. “Axe is all about the mating game, and the best place for a mating game is at a nightclub,” said Michael Heller, the founder and chief executive of Talent Resources, which is advising Axe on the project. "Step Up 3-D" taking over B, 2 and 4
In case you are wondering why a lot of hunky, six-pack-ab types are walking around...More than usual, anyway.
More spring cleaning: (AKA, your next 90 seconds -- planned!)
Hello. The spring cleaning continues. Specifically in the drafts section in the EV Grieve archives, where I continue to be horrified at the half-written posts taking up space. Some of them are just dated. Some of them just weren't quite working. So I posted a few of them anyway. Which explains all the nonsense going on below this post. I said this exact same thing two Fridays ago. I promise not to do this too much longer.
Posts that I never got around to posting: That guy in the purple T-shirt
Ever since I saw these ads for Uniqlo on Suffolk and Houston I have nightmares that I'm forced to go out for speciality cocktails with that guy in the purple T-shirt and he takes me to a secret bar that's under another not-so-secret-anymore bar and no one drinks because they are too busy looking to see if Albert Hammond Jr. will show up, who eventually does and is actually really nice, which disappoints people who want to be ignored by a celebrity then we go to an after-hours party and I'm forced to select the music and everyone is watching me so I pick the Crystal Castles and get laughed at because they are so 2008.

Swatching Chico on Houston and Avenue B
Back in mid-April, we mentioned the space on Houston and Avenue B that was earmarked for Chico...
Well, Chico and company (Tats Cru?) are currently putting up a new mural.... which looks like a Swatch ad...
We'll walk by later for a progress report...when it's a little less congested.

Critters on the loose in Manhattan! (NOT on the menu at Serge today: Possum)
While walking to a dumb lunch appointment today up in Midtown ... I saw five police cars parked along Madison Avenue in the 30s. Several police officers and passers-by were staring at the trellis next to the door at the French eatery Serge.
A makeshift barrier was set up outside the restaurant, which was not yet open.
Uh, so why are we all standing here looking at the trellis? A building maintenance man and bicycle messenger said in unison, "Possum!" Well, sure enough, a possum was hovering in the corner....looking pretty menacing...
So we all stood around like a bunch of dopes while the police officers figured out the best method of humanely trapping the possum. That left people time to theorize. "How do you think he got here?" Well, said one man, "I've seen possum in the Bronx." Another man chimed in, "I bet he took the subway!"
Yeah, OK....the police eventually got a little cranky with so many people — now maybe 40 strong? — milling about.
Back up, people!
We did. People new to the crowd said things like, "What is it, a gas leak?" Tourists took photos.
A few minutes later, an officer approached the possum with an apple-picker-looking thing. The possum was placed inside a plastic trash can and carted off... We didn't hear where the possum was being taken. People stood around for a few more moments, seemingly disappointed to see the free entertainment come to a conclusion.
[Oops...Thanks to the e-mailer...it's an opossum in the Western Hemisphere...Apologies...]
