A few new things on Avenue C

This two-story building at 151 Ave. C -- two doors south of C-Squat between Ninth Street and 10th Street -- is now on the market. There was no information about this property listed on the My Broker Web site. (And is Speakeasy still around on the second floor? I thought it closed...)

And between 10th Street and 11th Street -- a dry cleaner is opening...

And there's a new cafe called Bread & Butta opening between 11th Street and 12th Street...in a space that has been empty for a few years, as I recall...

It would be hard for me, too, to type the dreadful name Bread & Butta, but that's what it is. And if it's a supposed play on a NY accent, I will throw a brick through their window.
Or maybe I'm just cranky because the Boston Bloviator just eliminated the Broadway bus, in the name of a "cleaner, greener New York."

Wow, that was weird, BaHa... I saw the Bread & Butta sign — and I thought, Seriously? When it came time to do the post, I wrote Bread & Butter anyway. Wasn't really thinking. I changed it in the post.

Thanks, Anon, for the information on Speakeasy....

Bread & Butta's had quite a few problems. It took over the space that long held a barber shop/bookie joint, the last in the area as I've heard. The store was for rent for some months, then B&B took over the lease. They got shut down during their renovation for unsafe conditions, then twice had evictions notices for nonpayment of rent (at $1,600 a month, one of the cheapest rents in a pretty cheap neighborhood). It's not been ready to open for about two weeks, I guess they're busy churning butter.

Hi Diane,

Thanks for the comment... Seems as if that spot has been vacant for a good two years... From the looks of the inside, it seems as if a lot of work is left...
