Rent a former Duane Reade on Broadway

The Duane Reade on Broadway (with an entrance on Eighth Street) is vacant and on the market. I don't know when this location closed. The retail listing for the space (rent available upon request) is dated from Sept. 22.

Anyway, there's a Walgreens nearby...

The Duane Reade further south on Broadway near Bleecker closed this past summer...

Meanwhile, the Duane Reade on Union Square is also available for sub-leasing.

Several Duane Reades have been closing around the city, including three on the Upper West Side and one on Canal and Broadway.

The Duane Reade on Broadway and 8th closed because of a fire, though you wouldn't know it by looking inside. I only found out when my doc tried to call in a prescription and the outgoing message relayed the news. Not sure where the fire was...I think the pizza place next door was also closed for a while.

Here's hoping the beast on 14th and 1st, that shoehorned itself in right next door to the CVS, is nearing the top of the "Stores to Close" list.

The fire was in the floors above the Duane Read and Pizzeria, it was a 5th alarm in June 28th, 2017

Other shuttered Duane Reade stores: 23rd Street @ 3rd Avenue; 3rd Avenue @ 26th Street. A Walgreen's on Third @ 36th closed, too.

The fire started in the Deli and spread to other sections of the commercial and residential building. Many homes were lost, dozens were displaced.
The Staples reopened quickly but the smoke and water damage in others has kept them closed.
Duane Reed put up closed signs several weeks ago after emptying salvageable stock.

The Steiner Bldg on 11th & A is a prime DR spot.

Thank you Anon @10:37 AM for the accurate information. A pleasure to read facts instead of misinformation.

I *heard* that they are closing many locations to help them take over Rite Aid --to beat the anti-monopoly rules..

I was at Starbucks down the street when the fire erupted. Yes, it was a five alarm fire. I haven't seen anything as bad as when the explosion on 7th and 2nd in 2015 happened when the corner was destroyed.

I was a customer at this Duane Reade for years. Incidentally, they were going to reopen, but due to a lack of finances, I heard they decided to close up. Sad. I really liked this location as it was right off the subway steps on my way home. The pharmacists and staff were friendly.

It is odd for the Duane Reade in US to close too. I wonder if the company is downsizing??

BTW, the sandwich and pizza places won't be opening either. Both owners folded in the towel. A friend of mine, who lives in the building above the shops and Duane Reade said it will take years to resolve the extensive damage with insurance and contractors when they rebuild the 22 apartments that were burnt to a crisp. I think the corner will remain untouched indefinitely.
