Beer and pizza for former Bounce Deuce

Eater reports that the former Bounce Deuce on Second Avenue at Sixth Street is becoming a pizza/beer joint. As Eater noted: "No word yet on whether or not they're keeping the flat screen TVs (and yards of beer)."

As Eater reported last week, Bounce Deuce looked suspiciously closed.



And over the weekend, rather vague confirmation signs went up....

Eater reports that Bounce Deuce, the bar with a name too easy to mock, may be closed. Eater notes that there have been no signs of life here at the corner of Second Avenue and Sixth Street, home to the Table Tapper -- a 3-foot plastic tube that holds 116-ounces of beer. (Bounce, its big brother on the UES, remains open.)

I walked by myself last night. All shut down. Fortunately, the BD Web site lives on...(and they're still advertising the Margarito fight from Jan. 24!)

Bounce Deuce to return?

Hold on. Bounce Deuce at Second Avenue and Sixth Street is closed.... but perhaps not dead. And there's a new work permit on the door. Something about expanding a fire exit.




And there's new paper on the windows....



...and all the furniture is still inside. It just doesn't look (yet?) like a joint that's closing. Except the part about not being open. And those 71 violation points.



When the place shuttered, the signs did just say "Have a great summer!" Back in time for football season?

P.S.
However, no signs of the beer tubes.

Remember when I suggested that Bounce Deuce wasn't really closed for good, that it would reopen in the fall?

I could be wrong. I caught a glimpse inside. It's a mess. Though the TVs are still in place.

Well, the former Bounce Deuce (moment of silence -- no giggling!) on Second Avenue and Sixth Street is nearly transformed into...



Just what, I don't know. The signs last fall originally said a Pita Pan sports grill... I asked one of the workers here yesterday what kind of restaurant that we could expect... and he answered, "European." I said, "excuse me?" Then he said "German." Then he looked nervous and said that I needed to ask the owner.

And the new French creperie cafe on St. Mark's Place near Avenue A is now open...



And I no nothing about Hawkers, an eatery featuring, as the sign reads, "Southeast Asia street-style food," that recently opened on 14th Street near Third Avenue... (and only two Yelp reviews so far!)



EV Grieve reader T.E.V.B. reports that the new dessert place is now open at Third Avenue and NYU....the former site of Atlantic News...



"I picked up a menu, they serve bubble tea, shaved ice, crepes, other Asian-y snacks/desserts, etc. Similar to Saint's Alp Teahouse just up the block," T.E.V.B. reports...

And, oh, just for old time's sake!

As Eater first reported, the former Bounce Deuce on Second Avenue and Sixth Street is becoming something else... now the signage is up...




And as you can see, the Queens-based Pita Pan is taking over...Their fries look good.

[Updated] Vandaag has been closed lately is officially closed now

Several readers pointed us to Vandaag, the well-regarded Dutch-Danish bistro on Second Avenue and East Sixth Street. The restaurant has been closed of late. One reader put the date at May 20.

EV Grieve regular peter radley, who took these photos, said this sign has appeared in the window for at least a week... "plumbing emergency"

He also noted that the plants and flowers inside the restaurant are dead...

There isn't any outgoing phone message with an explanation of the closure. The restaurant's Facebook page hasn't been updated since May 8. Open Table is not accepting any reservations. We sent the Vandaag folks an email asking when they might reopen.

Vandaag opened in July 2010 in the former Bounce Deuce space. Vandaag owner Brendan Spiro is involved with a new restaurant, Woodland, in Park Slope that opened on May 21.

Food truck favorites Mighty Quinn's taking former Vandaag space on Second Avenue

There's a new restaurant opening in the former Vandaag space on Second Avenue and East Sixth Street. Eater has the scoop that the address will be home to the first "brick and mortar location" of Mighty Quinn's, a BBQ food truck, specializing in sustainable smoked meats, favored by food truck foodies in Brooklyn.

Per Eater: The "stand consistently draws the longest lines at the weekly food fest — it's one of the only lines that people will keep waiting in even when it starts to rain. The most popular menu item is his smoked brisket, which is usually gone by 1 p.m., but the stand also serves chili, ribs, and barbecued lamb."

Anyway, been a bit of a tough corner here for restaurants... there was that pita/sports bar combo that never actually opened ... Bounce Deuce ... Smoked ... and ...

EV Eatery Etc.: Dutch gin on Second Avenue; iPad at Butter Lane

Here at the former Bounce Deuce space on Second Avenue and Sixth Street...someone sunk a fortune into renovating the space... Per Diner's Journal in the Times:

With interest in the ancient Dutch style of gin known as genever growing in cocktail circles, it was only a matter of time before a genever bar opened in New York. Vandaag, near the northeast corner of Second Avenue and Sixth Street in the East Village, will be the first when it has its soft opening on Tuesday.

As I noted in the spring, a pizza joint was taking over the former Cafe Brama space... Eater has the story of Plum here.



Cafe Hanover in the old Mondo Kim's space is still closed...



Life Cafe reopened this past Thursday after a temporary closure for renovations....
