Their hearts are in the right place, but these demos would be more effective at the offices of politicians who have the power to close the Indian point power plant....
Fukushima on the Hudson: The Indian Point nuclear power plant is 25 miles from New York City and leaking radiation from decrepit 40 year old pipes. The plant contains the equivalent radiation of 1000 Hiroshima bombs. We have no workable evacuation plan for the 20 million people living in a 50 mile radius. In fact politicians don’t have the power to shut down Indian Point, only the NRC has that authority. The majority of representatives in New York City, in the Hudson Valley, in Rockland, Orange, Putnam, Westchester and Fairfield counties, the areas most concerned by Indian Point’s close proximity, are opposed to the relicensing of Indian Point, but that doesn’t hold any weight with the NRC.In Vermont, the entire legislature voted 26 to 4 to shut down Vermont Yankee, and yet, it still operates, because neither Entergy or the NRC is obligated to abide by the will of the people!Visit www.rockthereactors.com for more details on the issue.
interesting info remy. i suppose the NRC is not liable to foot the bill in case of nuclear disaster. would love to know how that is legal and what kind of tax loopholes they are enjoying. would love to know more on the history of indian point and what state meathead(s) allowed this to get built in the first place. i want an expose! on dateline!!! but serisouly. how can we really get this to shut down. it scares the living cr@p out of me
