On Saturday, Italian muralists Jorit and Tukios started a new project on the SW corner of Third Street and Avenue B — outside Mama's Bar... Talib Kweli and Mos Def (Yasiin Bey) — aka Black Star...
Bad Pussies mural that had been nearly tagged out of existence.
While visiting NYC, Jorit and Tukios have kept busy, creating murals of KRS-One on Second Street at First Avenue and Malcolm X in First Street Green Art Park ... as well as Muhammad Ali on Sixth Street at First Avenue...
Mos Def is gone, long live Yasiin Bey.
Nothing says east village like some dudes from Brooklyn.
Looks great! Hopefully it doesn’t get tagged to death like so much art around our neighborhood has recently. Anyone else noticed asshole taggers have started tagging things during the daytime now too?
most excellent X 2
Looks great, but I do vote for some EV Bands - when will the New York Dolls mural show up? or Television? or ........
All these murals look so corporate now, none have the spontaneity of Chico or some of the other past mural artists.
They seem like talented artists. But something about two white guys putting up murals of heroes of color doesn't sit right with me. Would prefer to see artist of color who better represent the east village contributing their heroes to our walls.
Man. Couple of folks doing something that makes them happy and smiling while doing so and everyone is negative AF.
@12:19 are you serious? Who cares what their color is, they like the people they are painting. I personally think they are doing too many walls, the red stripe thing is an annoying virtue signal, but I didn’t mind seeing a couple of them.
@12:19 Yeah, racism shouldn't sit right with anyone but at least you're semi-aware of it, and admitting you have a problem is the first step.
Featuring some EV bands/personalities is a good idea though, otherwise what's the point?
