Summer, winter in 1940s New York

We spotted this yesterday over at our friends at ANIMAL ... as they describe it " some silent amateur footage of Manhattan during World War II. Just a stroll through summery Greenwich Village, springtime Coney Island, and fun in a snowstorm."

Than was great fun to watch. Thank you so much for putting it up.
(For some reason, the sailor putting on his sock was one of my favorite moments. What can I say?
Anyone recognize where minutes 10:15 to 13:15 were shot?

This was great. Thanks for sharing. These films look like home movies. I like the carriage on the boardwalk. Nice ride.

Great....thank you for sharing this. Fascinating how neatly dressed all are, and note the difference in posture between then and now.

Great find !!! Fans of this video should check out CritcalPast.com
It is a site of archived gov't and municiapal news reels and films.
Input NEW YORK CITY and you will see thousands of films, each about a minute long.

I agree with everyone else, thanks for posting this. The Coney Island footage is fantastic!

Interesting to see everyone at Coney in suits and ties on the boardwalk, and the lack of cars on 10th st. Also, the sidewalks are clean, but the road is hardly plowed. Much different than today.

Completely captivated by this -- thanks!!

The snow-bound bus on East 10th street brought me right back to this:

I loved the sailor putting on his shoes and socks, too!Figured he may have just had a bare foot stroll on the beach at Coney?

Lastly, the city sure looked pretty white back then....

This was great. It reminded me of growing up in the 1950's and spending all day out doors playing in the snow.
