Blinded by the 24-hour ATM light

Some residents who live on Avenue B just south of East Seventh Street are unhappy with Anwar Grocery for installing "an incredibly bright flashing 24-hour ATM sign better suited to Times Square."

Said one neighbor: "Residents ... now have their apartments lit in alternating shades of red and green throughout the night."

Requests by neighbors to turn the sign off at night have been rebuffed by the Anwar staff, according to EV Grieve reader Robert.

Permits are required for all "illuminated" signs under the NYC building code--check BIS online to see if they've got one, if not call 311, the more calls the better chance a building inspector shows up.

obnoxious sign. It's such a low-key place, too.

A can of black spray paint will take care of that in a few moments. Its time for people to stop allowing bullies to harrass us.

If memory serves these are the folks that used to have the A&H Grocery bodega on Avenue A between 12th and 13th on the east side.

They were from Sri Lanka and always super nice. I wonder what happened to make them grumpy like that?

Call 311 and report the sign. It likely isn't legal.

Light pollution is very real. And it continues to get worse and worse.

I am agree with you. Should we turn off road signal too?
