The black crowned night heron continues to come out at... night in Tompkins Square Park

Bobby Williams got a photo of the black crowned night heron that has been spotted here and there around Tompkins Square Park the past few years...

Have similar photos from last Friday night. Watched it stalk baby rats in their holes by the St. Marks entrance. Successfully pulled a squealing baby out, broke its neck and swallowed it whole. Twice! We need more of these guys in the park to naturally regulate the rat population!

Where are the pictures of it feeding!

Another reason to stop using rat poison - we have natural exterminators working 24/7. Hawks on the day shift, and night herons on the night shift!

What that park needs is some goats.

Saw it for the first time last night strolling through the hoards of rats - tho it ignored the ones we saw - near 8th/St. Mark's and Ave A entrance. Very cool!
