A reader passed along word that Kathy's Jewelry was closing on First Avenue near 14th Street... Her shop sits next to the long-shuttered David's Bagels....
However, the store is merely moving down First Avenue a few storefronts... the Tats Cru-painted gate likely won't make the trip, though.
what makes a successful business? i would say quality service at fair prices. rising rents and/or renovation and moving costs can tilt this balance. owners are forced to make solomonesque choices: raise the price or reduce the quality. i have been a very happy customer of jonah for years. let's hope they can remain here. so many local businesses are lost to landlord greed.
