A few weeks ago, Page Six noted that people behind ventures such as Macao Trading Co., Employees Only and The Gates were taking over the former Hype Lounge on East 14th Street aka IHOP Way...
Yesterday...
And today...
According to a description on Yelp, Bishops & Barons is "a restaurant and cocktail lounge that celebrates the days of showgirls, movie star gangsters and supper clubs."

shootings, violence, drunks, vomit, noise???
I'm pretty sure "showgirls, movie star gangsters and supper clubs" is code for "shrieking harpies, douchenozzles and bottle service."
Wow, I didn't realize you could go even more cheesier than Hype.
A rare improvement over the previous occupant
Please Lord, save us from the physical manifestation of the lame ideas of greedy idiots...
I'm going to be generous and give it six months.
James Cagney, local boy, Stuy High graduate, is laughing his head right now.
Perfect pre-IHOP.
I don't remember the new people going before the Community Board for the transfer. Or did they just go directly to the State Liquor Authority?
Hype's biggest problem was that they couldn't decide if they were competing with the Blind Pig or with Nightingale Lounge. Those are 2 very different crowds and Hype pleased neither.
This new place looks godawful. There's a good reason that the only "high" end anything on 14th street from East to West is the Darby, and even that has to sweep bums away every night before opening.
ugh, disGUSting.
why don't they just call it "clueless rich a$$holes with no class or culture failing to embolden their hollow, insecure selves thru the validation of other cluless rich a$$holes"
?
Yeah, screw anybody who tries to open a cool place. Who wants a place with a chill vibe and good cocktails made with great ingredients? Nobody should try to do anything on 14th street or it's obviously bad, even if I've never stepped foot inside because it's not open yet.
Also, in all seriousness I'm really sorry to you all that Mars Bar closed down. I can see why you're so angry.
Well likewise, Anon 8:54: How do YOU know this place has a "chill vibe" (snort) if it's not even open yet?
Tell your brother good luck with his bar!
LvV... Very good point. But the snort is not needed. Although it is "officially" not open yet, it has in fact been open and I have been inside, unlike any of the other commenters. Sorry I didn't make that obvious. (Also, damn, I totally wish my brother had the money to open a place with a bar. I would be there so much he would learn to regret it!)
