The restrooms in the Tompkins Square Park field house are now closed as part of an 18-month renovation getting underway.
In February, a Parks official explained that temporary toilets were not part of the contract "and cannot be supplied during construction." The alternative for public use during this period: The restrooms at the McKinley Playground on Fourth Street between Avenue A and First Avenue adjacent to P.S. 63/the Neighborhood School.
By March, though, Community Board 3 noted that porta potties would be on-site after all.
HELL NO! Sorry. I'd rather relieve myself outside. Porto potties no bueno.
This is going to be lovely for the summer.🙄
Why can't we just rent those portable bathroom trailers that a lot of events have and charge entry so that they are actually cleaned? Would be just like Europe (but temporary) and fantastic.
I'd set my anus on fire before I'd ever step into one.
Who is going to clean and maintain these little boxes on a daily basis? Probably no one. The stench will make most everyone puke, especially in the warmer months. No thanks. I'd rather go in my pants then use one of these monstrosities.
Hedor de Porta is going to be spectacular when it gets hot. And what's the over under on the date of the first tipping?
Their names are curly. larry and Moe and I love them dearly.
Clearly that's the VIP potty in the middle.
On Saturday 2 ambulances and EMTs have pulled someone out of the women bathroom on a stretcher.
That's the ADA Compliant toilet.
Great at least now the junkies can have a private place to shoot up.
Omg I threw up at the headline alone
I am just here for the comments :)

Yeah, cuz there sure isn't any retching stench wafting across the park off the dog-run come August.
Dog run sure. And the sanitation puddle that builds up by the dog run. But have you had any experiences with public porta potties?
I was going to say that the porta-john smell won't be any worse than the nasty stench of fecal-laden dust and effluvia wafting throughout the park from the dog run, but you beat me to it!
I always use the toilet before I leave my flat. If I really need to use the loo during an emergency, I'll visit Trader Joes. But these porto potties literally terrify me with its odors, germs, and you know what lurking around. At least back in the UK, there are more public bathrooms, which are cleaned regularly. NYC needs to up their game so residents such as us don't have to be relegated to these sad things.
As long as I'm the only occupant, meaning no other people, rats, snakes or alligators, I'll use 'em. Stop being so bougie.
