Not so pretty in pink at 57 Great Jones St.

Back on Monday, we noted that someone rolled over the exterior at 57 Great Jones St. between the Bowery and Lafayette with pink paint.

Several media outlets picked up the story (and credited and linked to EVG) ... so thank you...
Curbed
Bollyinside (!!!)

Anyway, the pink painter (whose identity is known) also defaced the memorial plaque for one-time tenant Jean-Michel Basquiat, who lived and worked here from 1983 to the time of his death in 1988.

The incident motivated EVG regular Lola Sáenz to spend an hour on Friday trying to clean up the plaque and make some progress, though it will need to be professionally buffed out ... (see the top photo)...
As for the address ... earlier this summerAngelina Jolie announced a new venture, Atelier Jolie — "a creative collective for self-expression" — opening this fall inside the space.

WTF is wrong with people who do stupid, destructive shit like this?

Our neighborhood has one of the worst problems with graffiti in the city. People will do it in broad daylight without fear. Kind of poetic justice though regarding the plaque.

EV Grieve, Thank you so much for the update. I truly appreciate how you care for the East Village, and our community!!.
And 12:10 pm comment. You're Welcome, I'm happy I cleaned it, enough to read it again.

That Bollyinside stuff is some of the funniest shit I’ve read in years…
It’s either the Hilarious Chinese Menu Translation Service, or it’s ChatGTP or whatever that shit is called.
Honestly not sure it’s not infectious Malware.
Unbelievable

Agree that Samo aka JMBasquiat was not about senseless destruction. He had that old school street graffiti artist honor that you did not destroy or tag good art. (Dare I say a boomer/gen x sensibility since everyone seems to be shoving everyone into ageist silos these days;) Miss when a good piece such as Roa's rat on the side of a stoop, much less the crow on the wall at Albert's Garden, both on 2nd Street between 2nd And Bowery, where there for years if not decades before being tagged. That great rat was tagged out of existence in a matter of weeks once one idiot hit it. Not all tags are art much less hitting a wall with a coat of pink, no matter how Barbie and "on trend" it is. Such a metaphor for what has happened to downtown. Get a grip on the egos kids, or at least some good taste and manners. Get off of my lawn.
