The Mosaic Man is working on the Tompkins Square Bagels sign

Here at 165 Avenue A, Jim "the Mosaic Man" Power has been working on the new sign for the coming-soon Tompkins Square Bagels... he was there yesterday...

...and here's a look at the sign in progress...

...and a few days before that...

And have you been to Jim's new website? It's right here.

Meanwhile, the shop will also exhibit the work of local artists on a regular (monthly?) basis... first up, V.H. McKenzie and her metro used subway transit card art ... She'll be featuring some neighborhood scenes, such as the TSP Ratstravaganza...

She's also soliciting ideas for local/East Village scenes or icons that she could paint on the cards, so if you have an idea...

Previously.

Oh, how beautiful! This is exciting! I saw Jim and Jesse Jane moseying along A at 13th just yesterday. They always make me smile. And I love that a shop is finally engaging the neighborhood in a sincere way and featuring our local artists, especially on Ave A. Can't wait for a bagel, yay carbs!

PS TSBagels: tofu cream cheese please, if you could, thanks :)

I think it would be cool to see the "thanks for the memories" Mars Bar sign on one of her cards. that's small enough to fit on here.

Best thing to happen to my block and the LES in a very long time!

We have the tofu cream cheese covered. Looks like we'll have scallion , veggie, walnut raison, and plain tofu cream cheese. We make our own and are open to suggestions.

Nice to see a new business that actually caters to the neighborhood. I just pray they don't try to reinvent the bagel.

Thanks to all for the welcoming words. We have reached out to several local artists. If anyone out there is interested in having their work displayed please email me at TSBAGELS@GMAIL.COM. We also want to thank Bella Tile on 1st Ave and 10th for helping us out with the tile for Jim's sign.

In the spirit of keeping it local, we are currently in negotiations with the TS Hawk ( we hear he's looking for extra work) to help keep unsavory characters at bay.

They should offer mouse-turd cream cheese. Tofu or not, doesn't matter so much; won't affect sales one way or the other, I suspect, but it'd be good as a decoy if the Dep't of Health starts getting uppity.

I just came across this, from Mr (I assume it's a "Mr") BagelGuy's comment to a previous item:

... You sir are hear by challenged to a bagel duel ! Mano y mano. 165 Avenue A. My oven. My seeds.

Sir, I decline the offer of your seed. Unless you're really cute, of course.
