Reader report: Flying bullets last night on 13th Street and Avenue B

We received several reports from readers — via email and Twitter — of gunfire last night near 13th Street and Avenue B. A reader shares this report:

At 9 p.m. or so, 6 shots were fired somewhere around 13th and B. I was on a roof in the area. We walked to the edge and didn't see anything. And no one running around. So I sat back down. Two minutes later, 6 more shots are fired. One bullet flew over my head within I would say 10 feet of me. Unmistakable sound of a bullet whizzing past my head. We bolted back into the apartment. Called 911. There were a lot of reports of shootings. The cops came and said they had no information. Seemed frustrated that we didn't see anything. Based on how close the bullet came to us and the fact we were on the 9th floor of a building I am not sure it was a street-level shooting. Very scary.

Anyone else have any further information?

I was at the B Cup on 13th and Ave B. The shots were somewhere between Ave B and C. It sounded close enough to make half the patrons duck down to the floor and move away from the storefront windows. I don't know that anyone actually saw anything. I did see a few pedestrians quickly scuffling off the intersection though. Happened around 8:50.

Yes, I live on 13th and B and certainly heard these gunshots last night. I heard the first set of shots as well as the second set and started seeing people run. Heard a lot police sirens but only saw 1 police car on the dead end of 13th street.

Would certainly like to get more info on what happened.

On the plus side, perhaps this will keep the frat boys and bachelorette parties at bay for a few weeks.

Is it just me or do the police seem really unresponsive to this type of thing. i hear gunshots all the time on ave c and i always move away from the windows. sometimes it is followed by large groups of people shouting for up to 20 min. yet the police never come. they should have plenty of time to get on the scene, considering some of these episodes go on for 20 - 30 minutes and the precinct is like 4 blocks away. oh well i guess they're too busy ticketing cyclists and raping women

To Glamma and Hey. Something tells me if the police would have arrested one of those fine neighbors of yours with an illegal gun on them you would be the first to protest that their civil liberties were violated.

Here's what a friend of mine in the NYPD when I asked if they knew what happened: "Nobody knows. Nobody was injured. They retrieved six shell casings from the scene (in front of 641 e 13th St). The detectives are investigating."
