There was a line for the Big Gay Ice Cream Shop pretty much all weekend long

At least when we looked. Here's a photo from last night. They opened on Saturday. You may have heard about it. Anyway, someone finally topped "The Help" at the weekend box office.

Mighty neighbourly of Butter Lane to start selling ice cream. Can't wait for Big Gay Cupcakes.

Yeah, and Van Leeuwen is much better ice cream, but Big Gay built up a really great (wait for it -- shudder) brand over the couple years they've been out with that truck. They're fun, they have that brilliant logo, their name feels mildly subversive even in an age when teh gays can get hitched and join the Army just like anyone else. They built a massive Twitter following studded with cool celebs. They've just built up a lot of goodwill. And the Salty Pimp is kind of deviously brilliant. Whereas Van Leeuwen is just really great ice cream very tastefully presented. They're both great local businesses and I hope they will both thrive and continue making us fat for many years to come

This is only temporary. Those lines are probably due to it being NYU move in week, on those lines I saw plenty of NYU tshirt wearing kids and their parents.

There was no line when I walked by on Monday, and I'm glad I tried it...
