A visit by the DOH on Friday has knocked out Atlas Cafe over on Second Avenue... 87 violation points.

Wowza. I go there all the time for the smoked salmon and goat cheese sandwich. Holy shit! Rats AND mice? Aren't rats supposed to eat mice? Also, insufficient personal cleanliness, cross contamination, food (smoked fish) prepared at illegal temperatures, these folks are trying to kill us. Never again. Also, their bagels were like... some of the worst I ever had in NYC. It's amazing a bagel can be so bad. Who presses a bagel? weird.
I love Atlas! I've been eating there for years (along with countless other regulars). They have such an amazing turnover that their food is always fresh. True, this isn't where I go for bagels. Meanwhile, I don't trust the DOH. Sorry, I worked in restaurants for YEARS, they're not the crusaders for public health and safety that you think.
Here, you'll find things that you may or may not be interested in about the East Village and other parts of New York City. Appreciating what's here while it's still here. Remembering what's no longer here. Wishing some things weren't here that are here.

Ugh. This is one of my favorite places. I hope they come back soon.
The DoH is a totalitarian organization, which should be closed down.
