Openings: YGF Malatang on 3rd Avenue; Conor's Goat on Avenue A

YGF Malatang has debuted at 92 Third Ave. between 12th Street and 13th Street.

Per the brand's Instagram account: "The restaurant specializes in malatang, a type of hotpot very popular in the streets of China, often confused with ramen. But make no mistake, malatang is a totally different concept."

The chain is said to have more than 6,000 outposts in China, Japan and Korea ... this is the first in NYC.

Signage out front explains how it works... and what you'll pay, roughly...
Hours: Daily from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Meanwhile...
Conor's Goat is now open at 23 Avenue A between Houston and Second Street. (First mentioned here.)

The Irish pub from Mike Droney, whose credits include the now-closed Gleason's Tavern on West 41st Street, serves various bar food, including a Cubano sandwich, tomato soup with grilled cheese, and French dip beef sliders.

The hours are below...
The last tenant in this space, Brooklyn Bean Roastery Cafe, closed in July 2021 after 15 months in business. And previously, we had Yerba Buena, which shut down at the end of 2017.

Another "theme" bar that serves nobody who lives here, and contributes to the boozy party night atmosphere and noise that detracts from quality of life.

Looks like a nice place. Looking forward to visit and have a pint.

This is on block (Ave A btwn Houston and 2nd) that already has at least 4 bars operating on it. This is not cause for an uproar. It looks like a nice, laid back Irish bar... it is not a theme bar at all.

I look forward to getting a pint of Guinness there soon! Sláinte!

Def not a theme bar, it's a small cozy spot and I really like the large mural of a rural scene on the back wall. Nice edition to the neighborhood I fell

YGF Malatang. I stopped by to say hello today (3/1/24) around 2.15 PM. The manager was very nice and patient (they were vey busy, almost a full house) with me, explained to me how it works. And as noted in the menu inside, it's $14.99 per pound, a self service salad bar type of place. The food looked fresh and good. I will be back.

Stopped in at YGF Malatang earlier this evening. The lamb was a little dry and flavorless, but everything else was okay (for that price level). They do seem to cook all the ingredients at once so you can end up with some inconsistent textures on the veggies. Staff was very nice. Place already seems popular.

Basically, it's a good option if you're only one or two people and don't feel like paying for or waiting for Dolar Shop a block or so down but would like a bit of a hot pot on a chilly rainy evening.
