Amaran is closing on Avenue B

Multiple readers have passed along word that Amaran is closing on Avenue B... Bride of 7th hears that the store that specializes in imported home goods will remain open through Dec. 25...

Meanwhile, here's the store back in May 2010...

Hmm - big space, corner location right across from TSP - I am guessing Starbucks. After all, there isn't one within a 3-foot radius.

I loved pretty much everything in this store from jump. But I couldn't afford anything in this store. Except when those woven shoulder bags from Bali were marked down to $15.

So. Well. Sorry to see you go..........

Decent sized space. St. Mark's Bookshop?

I was always surprised this store stayed in business considering the size of the place and the cost of the goods inside. It's tailor-made for a coffee shop but I hope that doesn't happen as the place next door, Paradiso: La Casa del Tiramisu, is run by a nice Italian couple who serve proper coffee (not to mention several variations on the titular dessert).

Plus the sammiches at Paradiso are pretty tasty...the salads too.

Last I heard (from owner) St Marks Books is not interested in moving further east than Ave. A.

Yeah, wouldn't mind if Paradiso expanded. Though Paradiso itself is a downsizing from La Casalinga, and perhaps they wanted it that way.

Why must we be gripped with terror everytime a commercial space opens for rent?
How can we do what the UWS did to restrict chain stores in their zone???
