What I didn't notice until the other day. The patio is gone.
The beer garden sign is still up, though.

A reader sent along an e-mail.... The reader's belief is the patio closed in the spring of 2007. More from the reader:
I had asked several of the bartenders if they knew when it would re-open. They shrugged; one said that the bar had a permit issue (noise, perhaps?). Now the door connecting the bar to the garden is
bricked over, and I expect the garden will be sold or leased as a separate parcel.
Croxley is pleasant on weekend mornings, when the only people at the bar are well-preserved and the cool quiet breeze blows in. Any other time it is unbearable -- even walking past can be irritating.
P.S. One day I'll tell you about the one time that I went to Croxley (they opened in 2003)... because Mrs. Grieve had to go to Duane Reade at the corner. I'd rather hit Croxley's than Duane Reade. (Or so I thought!) There's a large selection of draft beer. (At Croxley, not Duane Reade.) I order one. The bartender says, "Oh, you don't want that. Try our own Croxley Ale." I politely declined. But the bartender insisted. "It's really good." No, really. Christ.
Oh. Well, that is the story.

If I recall correctly, the beer garden closed back in 2006 when it was discovered that they never actually had the license to operate in that space. Even now, my first instinct is to go there for some outdoor drinking on a warm summer day.
Yeah the patio has been closed at least a year and a half; I'd say about 50% of the time I walk past it someone starts talking about how much that wasted land is worth.

Thanks for the comments... I just updated the post. Had one reader who is quite sure the patio closed in the spring of 2007. Yikes! Funny, you walk by someplace fairly often... As I responded to the reader, it seems as if the sidewalk is always crowded when I go by (in the evenings, of course) so I walk on the other side of the street... I just never noticed that the patio had disappeared.
