Pangea reopens tonight at 5

Last Friday, we reported that Pangea on Second Avenue between 11th Street and 12th Street has been closed of late. Owner Stephen Shanaghan told us that he was embroiled in "a landlord-tenant dispute."

Shanaghan sent us an email yesterday:

"After a long day in court, I am pleased to say Pangea has come to a new agreement with the landlord."

They'll be open at 5.

Previously.

I honestly thought they got shut down. I used to eat there all the time but the place isn't as clean as it used to be and the waiters are more interested in talking to each other than than the patrons. Note to the manager: Please do better. I used to love this place and I would love to come back!!!!!!!

I LOVE Pangea!!! I used to eat in that spot when it was Tempus Fugit back in the early 1990's, then was thrilled when Spaghetteria moved in from 7th St. with Steven & Arnaldo, then the name change to Pangea (around 1997?) and I still go for dinner or cocktails. And I beg to differ with Anonymnous above - but it IS clean, food still great, and ALWAYS a great and fun staff! Long Live Pangea!

Thank GOD Pangea reopened! I was in crisis mode! Best hummus and calamari ever!

The food hasn't been as consistent in recent months but I am willing to give the place a try again. I am just happy it wasn't shutting down and turning into another damn bar.

Maitre d' is the Goddess of Compassion herself, the best intimate dining in the hood (can actually hear your tablemates) PLUS my favorite waiter ever! So glad they are still among us - xoxo - Kim

Pangea has been a local favorite of mine for many, many years. A genuine hold out against the revolving door of trendy upstarts that have come and gone in the neighborhood over the years. The restaurant is an East Village treasure with a welcoming staff and a great sense of community. I'm glad to see it return.
