Here is your 5 Napkin Burger sidewalk cafe

Back in January, the CB3/SLA folks OK'd a sidewalk cafe for 5 Napkin Burger at 14th Street and Third Avenue. Several times we questioned whether they'd be enough room for a sidewalk cafe on a busy stretch that features food carts, bicycles, Trader Joe's food pallets, food truck lines, commuters, that one guy, etc.

Anyway, now we know... the sidewalk cafe is out ...

Perhaps they'll DBGB it and add some four-ton planters and stuff to provide a little barrier for eating.

Previously on EV Grieve:
Will there be enough room for a sidewalk cafe outside the new 5 Napkin Burger on 14th and Third?

This is utterly ridiculous. That corner is noisy and dirty and busy to the extreme. This is never going to change -- it's 3rd and 14th, ffs! WHO would ever want to eat out there? Either patrons will refuse to sit there or they will and Yelp-bitch about it later. It's going to be a giant headache for these burger foolios. Give it up, people.

I hate these outdoor patios that make it difficult for residents to do their normal business. It is really bad on 2nd avenue, and there doesn't seem to be any control. Take the Indian place on the corner 1st and 6th, they are always serving from the sidewalk, which is not permitted, and leave their setup tables in the walkway. And every single one of these phoney cafes think they have the right to put their specials sign in the middle of the walkway.

Man. I don't know why anyone would ever want to eat outdoors on the sidewalk in NYC. It's just not set up for it the way other places (France/Spain/etc.) are.

That looks about as appetizing as a fried football.

They really couldn't have chosen a worse location.

"They really couldn't have chosen a worse location."

It seems pretty full every time I walk pass. Seems like a pretty good location for them to me.

I've seen Crooked Tree Creperie put at least one table out in front of its restaurant? Are they allowed to do that? Been meaning to ask that. There's already a tree occupying that very narrow sidewalk, and when Crooked Tree put out the sidewalk seatings, there is hardly any space to walk on that already very narrow space.

Anyhoo, as for sidewalk seatings in general, here's Sheila's take on that, which I also share.

That's nothing.
Have you seen Boukies on second Ave. now?
If you walk down second Ave, and cross in the crosswalk and 2nd st., as soon as you step up onto the sidewalk again you crash right into their tables.

Of all the places to eat outside? Nasty! I'd rather eat at DGBCGDBDGC's!
