[Updated] A solidarity march for students in Montreal

Clayton Patterson shares these photos from last night... a group marched through part of the neighborhood in a show of support for the ongoing student protests in Montreal... (read the background here). ... the group (more than 100 strong by Clayton's estimation) arrived at Union Square at 10 p.m. ...

One reader said that the NYPD closed Tompkins Square Park early last night to prevent any groups from congregating there...

Updated 12:34 —
Colin Moynihan at the Times has a piece in the City Room this morning about the Park's early closure...

Updated 9:57 p.m. —

Here is an article from Animal titled "NYPD locks 100 people inside Tompkins Square Park to keep Occupy out." Here is the link.

When the police close the park to prevent the citizens from organizing, that is fascism.

When the cops take student activists out into the industrial suburbs and shoot them in the back of the head, THAT is fascism. When a bunch of middle-class kids protest in a fairly well-off neighborhood because of a general economic downturn that doesn't seem to affect them all that much, that's something else. It's valid, but it's something else. I don't disagree with the sentiments, but I do disagree with the terminology.

I wish we could see this turnout for marches/rallies/protests on issues closer to home, such as saving nursing homes from predatory landlords .

Maybe this is a bunch of "FRIENDS" waitin for the POOL invites

it is fascism!
how is the NYPD getting away with all this? how ironic that they break more laws than any other group.
people, you better use your voices to oppose this, we are living in a police state that is entirely poised to break into martial law.

Before we get all worked up , do we have any real confirmation that the park was closed other than , " A reader reports......"

@ barney.

Yes. Look at the Updated 12:34 part right below — Colin Moynihan wrote a piece for the Times on the Park closing early. I'll also add a link from Animal New York that interviews people who were locked inside the Park when the NYPD closed it .

But the NYPD wouldn't close down the park when the bros and brahs are hooting and hollering, and when the Santacon and Zombiecon and whatevercon congregate there for drunken debauchery.

Anyhoo, a couple of scenes from the student protests in Montreal.

Fuck Yeah Montreal!

I know I'm in the minority but these OWS protests accomplish nothing other than making cops collect fat stacks in overtime.
