Updated: Police identified the woman as longtime East Village resident Merle Ratner.
The collision occurred around 7 p.m. on the east side of the intersection as the woman crossed 10th Street.
ABC 7 said that the truck driver from an automotive shop — making a left from the southbound lane of C — remained on the scene.
The Collision Investigation Squad questioned the driver and conducted a field sobriety test. He has reportedly not been charged while the investigation continues.

Terrible news! I know that intersection well.
The east side of that intersection has too many accidents happening routinely, mainly because of wild left turns from C to 10th by over the speed limit local drivers.
Jesus Christ, 7pm? It's time to start holding operators of heavy machinery and large trucks, far far more accountable--as well as the people who employ them. People shouldn't have to worry about being forking MURDERED while crossing the street to go watch Jeopardy.

How can you hold someone accountable for something that is out of their control. Did you read the article? “He may not have seen her over the hood” May this poor woman RIP🙌🏻 This was a horrible TRAGEDY!!
