Au revoir, Le Gamin?

A reader notes that Le Gamin Cafe on Fifth Street between Avenue A and Avenue B is now closed.

This restaurant was part of a mini-chain of french bistro type restaurants that popped up around the city in the past few years. They had decent food and pretty good prices and I ate at at least 3 of them. There were 2 on the west side, both now closed. Not sure if there are any others left.

I eat breakfast there a few times a week and really like the place. About 2 weeks ago, they actually gave me advance notice that they were gonna be closing for some renovations on 9/21 and said they were shooting to reopen by this coming Saturday the 3rd. (Yeah, I know we've all heard that before!) But I did walk by there a couple of days ago and it does appear that there's work being done. I guess I figured that if they took the time to give me advance notice that it was probably a legit situation. Guess we'll just have to wait & see...

i hope it is renovation. i always found it pretty peaceful in there and there are not many places left where i can sit, read and enjoy a cafe latte in a quite, cozy environment.

I was at Black Iron on Tuesday & met/overheard someone claiming to be the owner. He said that Le Gamin was going under renovations & would remain a French Bistro but with a more modern approach...
