[Updated] Man stabbed to death on Stanton Street

Getting all sorts of reports about "low-flying, military-style helicopters" hovering over the East Village early this morning... Twitter was a place to go for some commiserating at 4 a.m.

In any event, as of 6:30 a.m., we haven't heard any details about what this might have been all about...

Updated: This is likely the cause of the massive air search. Via The Lo-Down:

A 50-year-old man was stabbed to death in the lobby of a building at 190 Stanton Street in the wee hours this morning.

NYPD cruisers and a helicopter converged on Stanton between Attorney and Ridge following a 3:23 a.m. call and found the victim dead on arrival, according to a police spokesman.

Updated: EV Grieve contributor samo is on the scene on Stanton and sends photos of the police presence.

Called 311 during the hovering helicopter hell and was told "311 does not take noise complaints about helicopters." They switched me to the 7th precinct and was told "police activity." Put on headphones, passed out.

The problem is when you have a 10 year old who has an important math test to take and the low flying helicopter sounds like its right out your window.

Most likely due to a stabbing at 190 Stanton last night

Thank Traven. Certainly seems to be the case with the massive manhunt... thanks for the link (and @anon 8:30)

I also changed the original headline to reflect this news.

Oh man, I used to babysit for a young couple in that building years ago. I was always a little creeped out by that block. It's still a little hinky on Stanton East of Clinton.

@Anonymous above:

"Hello, 311?!? Can you please call off your search for a knife wielding murderer until after my child's math test tomorrow? Thanks."

+1 @Stern - I know Right?

Helicopters with search lights to track a stabber who disappeared long before the copter crew even started their engines? This is typical NYPD overkill -- too much too late!!!!

LMFAO @Stern, you tell 'em.

Give me a NYPD chopper doing its job instead of

"Whoo hoo! I'm 27! Happy birthday to me!"

any friggin' night.

P.S. I thought they were busting Angel "LAROC" Ortiz again... LOL
