The bad: East Village Pharmacy on Avenue A and Fifth Street has lost their lease...
The good: They're just moving to 41 Avenue A at the corner of Third Street, the site of the long-dormant coffee shop... this will help bring a little life to this lonely stretch of Avenue A...
Maybe good news: Maybe something else decent will move into the soon-to-be-empty East Village Pharmacy space... the sign says no restaurants, but food OK...

omg thank god they are staying on A.
unless the LL already has someone lined up, this is a stupid move in this economy. It would be typical under Bloomberg to see the pharmacy be replaced by a drug den I mean bar.
Whew. That would have been a dreadful loss.
@nygrump - love that last crack. Only sorry you;re so right.
I think that this co-op is pretty responsible about their storefronts. Does anyone live there, anyone know?
When I spoke at the SLA meeting about empty store fronts on A b/t 2nd and 3rd streets, Stetzer was delighted to interrupt me and say that a new pharmacy was going in on that corner. I'm not terribly impressed that it's a simple relocation down the block. The closing and reopening of an existing business is not a gain for the neighborhood. While I'm glad to see jobs will be maintained, this isn't the growth statistic I was hoping for. Although the Mrs still gets a laugh out of the mannequin in the window that once got in a (unilateral) fight with a man on the street who wouldn't stop screaming "You don't know me!" at the bandaged mannequin.
@Ryan
Ha! I've always liked that bandaged mannequin too... Wonder if he'll make the move?
The Russian girl that works there is hot!!
omg i'm obsessed wit her, i remember from a couple years ago! same one?
