Meant to note this earlier in the week... when the Times ran a piece on the new MTA subway map... In a "decluttering" effort, the MTA streamlined the map to make it easier to read ... in the process, Avenues A, B, C and D (among many others in the city) are no longer represented.
Hmm, I don't know. I like things cluttered. Like stores. And maps. And streets. Why does everything in the city have to be so neat and orderly. Like you have to have a shiny Cemusa coffin instead of a ramshackle newsstand.

Maps need to be functional and removing some of the streets does help that. I do love older maps, especially ones with old service names and old routes.
If you need a subway map to get to the EV you're already in trouble.
Pshaw. The city ain't for you, you only live here. New York City is for the tourists. where have you been.
on the bright side, perhaps it will prevent more rubes and yahoos from coming to the area.

As the oldtimers in Maine used to tell the tourists who asked for directions, "You can't get they-ah from heah-ah."
New York City is now changing to accommodate tourists? Does this mean we can all go to Boston and tell them to use the letter "R"?
I'm with Anon 7:54. That's got to be the most useless "decluttering" of a map ever.
They should just get rid of all the surface streets altogether and just put the names of the different realtor created neighborhoods in.
Please note that the new map shows Tompkins Square bisected by 8th Street. Robert Moses lives!
