Ave B faux "open street" has turned into a potential death trap. Enforce it, fix it, or just cancel it.

@Anonymous 12:45: I'd just close the avenue to cars altogether, but that's me. Cyclists do enough harm as it is.

I am glad they are doing this. I am all for Open Restaurants, and most of them are being good neighbors and I am happy to support them but there are restaurants on Avenue A and Avenue B taking advantage and blasting music. If this bothers you, say something. Complaining to 311 and the cops has done nothing so far.

thanks for posting. Open Streets: Restaurants is actually one program--dealing with the dining part of open street program.

The town hall will be dealing only with the outdoor dining portion of open streets. This is in response to a coalition of block associations and many requests for help from residents. The community board has not been receiving comments about the AVenue B 7-14th streets open streets

Glad its being addressed i know we all want to help but having these up permanently past pandemic is gonna require establishing issues we have now as a baseline
Me personally... street cleaning is lacking and cars aren't even moving for all side and it hold up sweeper so some blocks don't get cleaned. Now that its only once a week, its pretty gnarly when weeks (especially post holiday) go by and street trash piles up.
Going along with street trash... rats. They are thriving and city isn't doing as much as it could.
Restaurants taking over sidewalk with tables and inching them well close than 6 feet means everytime I go out ive got a concentration of potential exposure i cant distance from... I also am including people waiting for a tae when there are like 100 other restaurants less crowded they could go to
Cleaning. These areas of the street need to be cleaned under and around better. Rat paradise.

Wish I could attend tonight. These structures are needed right now but they suck in the long term. Noisy, people and waiters in the way of pedestrians, they block traffic and bike lanes and take away a ton of parking which is desperately needed (which causes more people to double park), and they are super noisy. Also regarding Covid they are basically indoors so it's just an indoor restaurant addition without paying rent, and they aren't mobile so they just stay, even when the restaurant is closed.

After the pandemic? No need for the outside extensions. Why do these businesses get prime NYC real estate for FREE? This is private entity doubling floor space without paying for it. During pandemic? Glad to help, but after? Unless I get to do the same extension out front of my building for free? No one else should either.
