At the grand reopening of Essex Card Shop

Photos by Stacie Joy

As you know, the storefront at 47 Avenue A between Third Street and Fourth Street was destroyed in a fire this past Jan. 10.

EVG contributor Stacie Joy stopped by and found a happy owner, Muhammad Aslam, and his daughter, Mehnaz Noreen, the retail sales manager...
Some locals were there to support the shop's first day back and pick up some office or school supplies, greeting cards, etc.
Stacie also had the chance to check out a fully stocked store...
Because people will ask: Longtime manager Jayant "Jay" Patel is currently traveling in India and will return soon.

What great news! Only 8 months later and right at back to school time.

Absolute admiration for them! What it took to go from that awful destruction to being open & fully stocked & with smiles on their faces is amazing to me, and I applaud their tenacity. We are very lucky to have them in our neighborhood.

Sending all best wishes to Mr. Patel, his daughter, and all at Essex Card Shop!

I can't believe the fire was in January. I could have sworn it was the beginning of the summer. Time flies

Oh this is so great, wow. Shout out and gratitude to everyone who funded their Gofundme and supported this in thoughts and actions. Can’t wait to stock up on writing supplies there. What a community, so nice to see something good happening. Life and love are seemingly local.
