Organizers have announced that this year's event, now known as the Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Festival, is taking place on Oct. 22, starting at 1 p.m. in Tompkins Square Park.
Dan Schachner, a former NFL referee who now serves as host of the Puppy Bowl, is the host.

The Dog Parade/Festival, which outgrew Tompkins Square Park, took place in East River Park in 2018, 2019 and 2021. (That venue is no longer available.) The 2020 pandemic version was mostly virtual, with a small in-person/dog event at Lucky on Avenue B.

The canine version of Santa Con, the big difference this one comes with corporate sponsors.
This is such a fun tradition that brings joy to dog lovers in the city and beyond! It lost a beat when it was moved to the east river park -- that was a long walk for a lot of dogs (and their owners). I'm happy to have it back in the neighborhood!
This is a family-friendly event, it is nothing like Santa Con. This dog parade is all smiles and pups. Santa Con is bros and barfing. The two events could not be less alike.
I love the flyer artwork.
Some people wait all year just to post a negative comment when this story goes up.
Very excited for the Tompkins Square Dog Festival to return to Tompkins Square Park. Hopefully the dogs will run the drug den out of the park for an afternoon.
SantaCon? Well, I guess the dogs do urinate in public, but they tend to do a lot less barfing.
WAY less obnoxious than Santa Con. That mess is all over the city. If you want to avoid this, just walk around the park. We LOVE the dog Halloween Dog Parade. The ERP Amphitheater was such a great venue for it, maybe they'll return there upon in's reopening in the 30's.
Sarah's comment above (at October 3, 2022 at 3:44 PM) is hysterical. And yes, the Santa Con comparison is bonkers.
Very happy it is back in Tompkins Square Park this year!!!
Love the illustration!
