Meanwhile, EVG reader Terry Howell shared the above photo, taken in January 2011 from the NE corner of Third Avenue and St. Mark's Place... looking at 51 Astor Place, the old Cooper Union engineering building and the Film Academy Cafe.
The cafe had a short life, closing in 2011, a year after replacing the somewhat redundant Starbucks in 2010. All this was demolished to make way for this — (the new) 51 Astor Place/the IBM Watson Building/the Death Star/CVS.

I had a good number of classes here from 1980—1987, so I wasn't glowingly happy when the DeathStar™ rose in its place.
I miss those trees.

Wow! It took me a few seconds to realize what and where those buildings were. It's been so long since I've bothered to remember what had originally been there for decades. What wasn't original to that location was the coffee shop, which ruined a very nice little enclosed square before it's "appearance".
I miss that one story building every time I walk by (almost daily)...
I want a huge snow storm where everything shuts down expept where i have tv and can cook so cozy
Maybe tomorrow? At least all public schools are going remote! There will be lots of Bluey around here….
