[Updated] NYPD assists abandoned dog in Tompkins Square Park

Earlier this evening, police were in Tompkins Square Park to attend to a dog that had apparently been abandoned on Crusty Row.

One witness said the dog's owner tied up the pooch and never returned... another witness said the dog was tied up for two hours before someone called the police.

No word on the owner... and, unfortunately, I didn't hear what kind of dog this is...

[Updated: Ah, Bob Arihood has a photo of the dog right here.]

Aw, poor pup. Hope s/he finds a good home and doesn't just get funneled to the CACC for extermination. S/he looks like a sweetie.

This pup-pup is just beautiful and you can see the sadness in his/her face at being abandoned. I have a soft spot in my heart for those damn crusty kids, who are often abandoned themselves, but if one of them left this beautiful dog, even temporarily, then that person needs a slap upside the head and a one-way ticket on the hobo train back to wherever the fuck. Animal abusers are the low. (Sincerest apologies if this terrible situation had nothing to do with crusties.)

These disgusting fucking losers shouldn't be allowed to possess animals. It's one thing if they want to play out their TIRED ASS "punk" fantasies by sleeping in vomit under a tree at night in TSP but don't take these poor animals down too.

It is awful to see these druggies with animals. A lot of them are abused, don't get enough food and water and never get vet visits. There really should be some kind of law against these people having animals when they can't even take care of themselves.

Sorry folks, I copped some really clean dope and nodded off under the dumpster where we were booting the shit - it won't happen again - can you spare some change so I can get my dog back from the pound?

Is there any way to find out what happened to this precious dog? Bob Arihood's beautiful photo is breaking my heart. I cannot believe someone would knowingly do this to a animal. It seriously makes me want to scream and break shit. Look at that puppy's sweethearted face. And she's obviously freezing. I can't stop thinking about this ... I pray to god one of the police officers adopted her.

Check out "Rancid Anne" and who's she's petting in this photo (scroll down. http://crustypunks.blogspot.com/

Anyplace is better for a dog than hanging with these lost souls.

Thank you 11:41 although that looks like a different dog to me? It's hard to tell.

If it's the same dog and the pup belongs to this Rancid Ann person, I sincerely hope she is run out of town, never to return. I'll provide the pitchforks.

Yeah, upon closer inspection it does look like a different dog. Did you see a similar story on Scouting NY's site: http://www.scoutingny.com/ You'd have to go back to January. The dog was tied up on the Williamsburg Bridge (I think?) during one of the snowstorms. Scouting NY was able to find a great home for the dog via his site. Thousands of people reached out to the poor little pup wanting to take him in.

I hope this pooch has just as happy an ending. He deserves it.

Who would do a thing like that?! (the W'burg bridge story) My heart weeps for humanity.

I know people abandon and abuse animals all the time, but I'll never be able to understand why. Don't get an animal in the first place, you abusive fucktards!

12:57 I share your wish but I think the little TSP pup is a girl. She just looks like a girl to me! I pray she'll find a forever home with someone who truly loves her. All god's creatures deserve that.
