It is so sad what the East Village is turning into.

Who cares? One teams, another team loses, net result = zero.

I was wondering what all the screaming was about. Silly.

remember when the EV had ZERO sports bars? and few sports fans? if the Yankees were in the World Series, we watched it on crap TVs in dive bars. no one wore Speedos for the occasion.

Let me tell you, if the Jets were in the Super Bowl and had won, it would have been 5X worse last night. The Jets are the true Frat Boy, Woo team, Giant fans are generally older. Full disclosure, I’m a Giant fan. Also, as I posted on Jeremiah’s blog, where's that clueless poster who responded to my post and thinks that herds are not a suburban phenomenon? Destructive gentrification would have happened in the EV without it but the major catalyst has been NYU. NYU is a malignancy like the Blob, landing its ever growing sections with a sickening thud throughout the EV.

Sorry Crazy Eddie, but I have to beg to differ. The majority of NY JETS fans are usually native NYers. If the Jets were playing last night, most Jets fans would've watched this in Queens or Long Island.

There were plenty of transplants, college students, etc. who normally root for their hometown football team during the season (e.g. Colts, Steelers, Broncos, 49ers, etc.) but were rooting for the Giants last night (I guess since they're in NY), and since their team was not in the SuperBowl. I doubt that they would've rooted for the JETS, if the JETS were the ones playing. And there were plenty of bridge and tunnelers from NJ who crossed the Holland and Lincoln Tunnels, and GW bridge yesterday to watch the game.

And there were even people who don't like football or sports at all but had Super Bowl parties anyway so that they can have Superbowl foodie parties. I don't think these would've been the same if the JETS were in the Superbowl. Are Jets fans more fratty than the Giants, maybe; but they would've been making noise outside EV and Manhattan. People who were rooting for the giants last night was a conglomeration of the frats from other teams.

But the point of this post, I guess, is that, these douchebaggery and noise and celebration wouldn't have happened if the EV did not have so many bars. So regardless, if the Giants, the Jets, Packers, whoever were in the Superbowl, there would've been still douchbaggery and fratboys in the EV last night. Heck, there fratboys and douchebaggery in the EV every weekend. The bars attract the pack mentality and fratboy mentality in the neighborhood, not just being a Giants fan.
