Nicky's Vietnamese Sandwiches leaving the East Village?

There's now a "store for rent" sign over Nicky's Vietnamese Sandwiches on Second Street just off Avenue A...

Usually this is a sign the business below is closing or moving. (Oh, and they are still open: These photos were taken before their business hours.)

I sent an e-mail to Nicky's to ask what was happening... a member of the Dang family responded: "I am not sure if my family will keep that location in the East Village but we will find out in the next month or two."

The family member confirmed that they are currently working on a new location in the Financial District....

And they also have a location in Boerum Hill.

Too bad. I like their sandwichs a little better than the ones at that new place on 6th Street.

this blows - i'm terribly fond of nicky's. i know theres a slew of other banh mi places in the neighborhood now but i'd rather go to nicky's.

I spoke with the brother that is usually at the EV location last night. They will not be closing until the next 2 - 3 months it is up to the landlord. He says that they are going to be moving just a block or 2 away from the current EV location and will have more space, less rent and still play 'The Simpsons'. The FiDi location will be run by his sister. I was the second person to ask about the shop and he had no idea that there was info on the restaurant closing on the internet. He also said that the deli around the corner, Gracefully (not the high end one) is going to be forced to close as well as the landlord was a substantial amount more in rent.
