Ho, ho, no! SantaCon slated for Dec. 11

Over the Halloween weekend, we spotted this discarded (or lost!) Santa hat on Avenue A.

We noted this in our Instagram Stories ... wrong holiday, etc. Haha. A few people nervously brought up SantaCon. Haha. As in, That's not happening this year — is it?

As of now, yes.

According to its website, SantaCon, which Gothamist describes as "the annual debauched meathead magnet bar crawl that floods certain unfortunate neighborhoods with blathering bro-chads in Santa costumes every December," the event is Dec. 11...
The pandemic sidelined last year's SantaCon. Participating venues are announced shortly before the 'Con... and the East Village always seems to make this Santa's list.

As stocking stuffers for Santacon, bars should hand out barf bags.

Unfortunately the neighborhood these days is so bar saturated that Satan - Con's presence will be hardly noticed.

Other than some red & white cos play, how is this different from the usual Saturday Night Shitshow (that now starts on Thurday), we endure every week. Woo-woo. Get a life.

the only upside of covid was cancelling this nightmare

Amen! Here is hoping for a freezing downpour that day! I am not a fan of cancel culture, but I would make an exception for this... cancel this travesty of entitled and obnoxious brats!

JFC when will this nightmare end? This year will be so much worse with all the outdoor sheds.

That and living in "Sty" Town, it was the absence of the NYU dorm life. But the NYU dorm dump MO is back with a vengeance here. Like yah!

As I have said many a time if SantaCon was a POC event, the National Guard would be called out. A peak of white privilege. Unlike the Andy Williams Christmas song:

Its the most awful time.
Yes the most awful time.
Its the most awful time of the year!

tbh at this point besides some Santa cosplay, I don’t notice any real difference to a typical Saturday night in the EV

Well, St. Nicholas Church Cookie Walk hasn't announced a date yet but their website says "Look what Santa's elves will be baking for CW 2021!", so that will also be back; they usually sync dates with SantaCon so hopefully that's something for folks to look forward to.

This event could gain a better name for itself if it wasn't ONLY about drinking and vomiting. Like if they had some sort of opening event that actually raised some sort of awareness and information for whatever charity they support instead of celebrating your white blandness that allows you to have a drinking hobby and no other skills.

SantaCon is an absolute blight. I'd rather the neighborhood flooded with douche baristas Thursday - Sunday than these Chadbros. Go home and never come back.

Time for the annual Get out of EV weekend retreat upstate !

I’m just here for the miserable comments

Just another lame excuse for duche bags, bridge/tunnel, entitled frat boys and privileged sorority sisters to act like demented troublemakers who will torment our fellow East Villagers for nearly twenty-four hours. A virtual living hellscape of vomit, debauchery, oblivion, and animalistic behavior run amok for all of us to witness as we try to traverse from point A to point B without being accosted. Great. Can't wait.

The annual Santacon whining has begun.

I like this idea from another commenter. Why not take all of the admission fees for the bars and events and direct it towards a cause that really matters such as children battling cancer or any other serious illnesses or adults living with severe disabilities? Anything which can turn this absolute shitshow into something positive.

I'd be in favor of blockading every side street and charging them $10 each to walk down the block. At least we who live here would get some compensation for having to endure this perverse drunk-a-thon. Maybe we could sell branded Santa-con barf bags, as these jerks would be dumb enough to buy them.

Oh no we are back to this again? A bunch of drunken puking millennials in Santa and Elve costumes turning the whole LES/EV into their drunken playground. Great well at least the bars will be doing a lot of business that day so I guess that is good for the local economy.

'A bunch of drunken puking millennials"

They are hitting 40 this year but not to worry, this year most of the SantaCon crowd will be taken over by the Zoomers who get really pissed off if you mistake them for a millennial but have embraced vocal fry and the whole Bro/Woo-Hoo entitled culture thing.

"The annual Santacon whining has begun."

Waiting for the annual inevitable "If you don't like SantaCon move to...", "Get a grip", "Get a life", etc., etc., lines

Defending SantaCon is defending the indefensible. EOS.
