Report: Gunman robs the Blarney Cove

From today's NYPD Daily Blotter in the Post (not yet online): A "gun-toting bandit" made off with about $1,000 after robbing the Blarney Cove on East 14th Street. The report doesn't say what day this happened, only that it was at 4:30 a.m. "He ordered the bartender to the back, stole cash from a register and fled," according to the report.

One of the last great "Old Man" bars on the Lower East Side! My father hung out there until the day he died, and my brother still does. Sad to hear.

@Joe

Agreed. Not many spots left like this anywhere, really.

As a boy growing up in Cork' Ireland ,which is 5 miles from Barney,my friend's and I would toss sods of the ''Old Sod" at the Yanks [all americans were yanks to us] in their Fancy Coaches that were on their way to kiss The Blarney Stone they seemed to like it ,well they took pics of us and yes we all had red hair,nobody got hurt.... I think "The Irish Tourist Board'' also turned a blind eye to it
I dont know why the pub is called The Blarney Cove' indicating that it's near a body of water ie cove.The nearest shore would be Kinsale and that is 15 miles from Blarney If anyone can explain please do..Regards,, Frank the YANK Campbell, Naturalised U.S.A. Citizen
