UCB's mail call

The Upright Citizens Brigade are apparently prepping for their move to the East Village by putting signs on mailboxes, such as this one EV Grieve reader Stacie Joy spotted on Third Street and Avenue B...

Meanwhile, as we mentioned last night, a resident is starting a petition to have the 'Hot Chicks Room' sign removed at the Upright Citizens Brigade HQ on Avenue A and Third Street.

We sent an e-mail to Alex Sidtis, managing director of the UCB’s Chelsea location, to learn more about when the EV location might open ... and what he thinks of the sign drama.

IF it was some kid promoting his/her gig that might be one thing.
Who owns UBC?

Amy Poehler is a part owner.

Go take in one of their shows prior to judging.

Thanks for the info.
I guess a question is a judgement.
BTW: I've been to the Chelsea theater.

Defacing a mailbox is a Federal offense as far as I know. Please call the authorities. (I'm not joking). :)

I just don't think they're very funny. It's like bad 8th grade attempts at humor and is so bland and homogenized, so I guess it's perfect for today's New York!

UCB is some of the smartest comedy out there. World renowned, literally. Would you prefer Caroline's?

I know you guys are so far down the rabbit hole of blanket opposition to any establishment with a liquor license, but really, how do you sleep at night allowing more and more upscale and culturless establishments to open but opposing anything unique, solely because it might bring a crowd?

When did the East Village get so provincial?

Their take on "Showgirls" was so awesome, I saw it twice.

Hello. I am the Artistic Director of the UCB Theatre in NYC. These signs were not made by us or posted by us. These pictures are the first we've heard of it. So - frankly - we have no idea who did this or why.

I'm not a coward, I just like contradicting myself

As I learned in theater school, all comedy is innately aggressive toward someone or something, and that’s why self-deprecating humor is the most appealing. And, it fails many more times that it ever succeeds. That’s why SNL reruns are better than the originals – they can cut the unfunny skits. I applaud UCB’s right to fail – they’re off to an appropriate start. So, I say good luck to them, and welcome to the neighborhood.

can you please post that petition online? that sign is nothing but a DISGRACE to the east village and to humanity at large and they should be absolutely ashamed of themselves for hanging such a atrocity in broad daylight. i mean seriously. talk about CHEAPENING LIFE IN THE EAST VILLAGE

Dear Phil H

Thanks for bringing us the Hot Chicks Room!

I heard that there's a photograph somewhere in the east village where you can plainly see a young woman's ankle!!

SHUT IT DOWN!

once, while I was walking by, I reached out and I touched the hot chicks room sign. I know it was wrong but I couldn't help myself!

now I can never be clean! please, please help me rid myself of the stain of that FILTH!

Remember back when everything in the East Village was perfect..... back before "the sign"???

I walk by here pretty frequently and never once noticed the sign.

CORNY. Just like most of their shit.

The main thing about it is how witless it is. If I were the UCB I would want to promote my work with something clever.
