Empanadas coming to East Ninth Street

That's the sign up in the window at the former Itzocan Café space on East Ninth Street just west of Avenue A. Perhaps this will make up for the loss of empanadas around here since Ruben's closed on First Avenue back in August 2010.

Anyway, a little food life here on East Ninth now with the arrival of Cigkoftem, the Turkish vegetarian fast-food, a few weeks ago...

Thanks to @jeneanchapman for the tip and photo.

Nothing will quite fill the hole left by Ruben's. But maybe the new empanadas place will fill the hole in our stomach at least temporarily.

I'm just happy it's not going to be another Subway! Look forward to trying their empanadas.

Better not be an overpriced artisanal empanadas, like that shaved ice on 7th street.

Will they go for a liquor license... just so they can pair the empanadas with wine?

$50 says they appear on the docket for beer/wine by the end of the year.
Also I want a $50 bonus if the applicant whines something along the lines of "But we need to pair wine with our desserts!"
