Sandy apparently took down the plywood outside 75 First Ave. last week... (This also happened during Irene.)
Provides a good look at the lot...
...and an opportunity to update the situation here. Back on Oct. 26, Off the Grid noted that there's a new permit on file (not yet approved) calling for an 8-story residential building. The original plans in 2007 called for a 14-story building that looked like this...
We haven't seen renderings yet for the reconfigured 8-story development, which will be rentals.

So what happens with the support beams that seem to essentially be holding the building next door from falling over?
I expect anytime to see a fancy HI ris replace the Rite Aid next to here. That corner space has a lot of air above it. And I expect it to be a monstrosity that doesn't fit in the 'hood.
I'm excited about getting an apartment with a balcony that is literally ON TOP OF THE RITE AID.
Jesus, these new high rises are fugly. Looks just like all that shit going up below Houston lately
I hope all these people living in glass houses abide the proverb.
