[Updated] More from the anti-7-Eleven front on Avenue A and East 11th Street

So far, we've seen signs of opposition against the incoming 7-Eleven on Avenue A and East 11th Street. First, someone carved "Fuck 7-11" into the sidewalk (twice) ... then we saw the anti-7-Eleven stickers ... and now... sidewalk chalk ... several of these are around the plywood...

[Thanks to @JGerbz for the photo]

And last night, someone created giant "No 7-Eleven" signs in the middle of the intersection... via an EVG reader...

Can't wait to see what's next in the anti-7-Eleven arsenal...

Great to see that people aren't taking the suburbanizing of the EV without speaking our minds. Really - 7-11, Dunkin Donuts, The Gap(from the 80s), these dreadful overpriced burger chains???? Gimme a fuckin' diner with a counter and vinyl booths and chairs - throw in lots of formica for just that right feeling...

Cannot wait to see what's next!!!

Please, friends and enighbors, just do NOT PATRONIZE this place -- support your local bodega!

Chris informed me that 7/11 has a plan for many, many new stores in Manhattan in the coming year and is targeting small bodegas, either to directly compete with existing shops OR enticing the owners to convert their spaces to 7/11s, by providing all sorts of monetary incentives (reduced franchise fees, etc.).

They see our existing bodega community as ripe for the picking - a blueprint, as it were, for mapping out the best locations for future 7/11s. They can only succeed if people patronize them -- talk it up with your friends and neighbors: boycott 7/11!

They can't succeed if they don't make money. They'll pour money into a location for only so long before they look elsewhere to colonize.
Don't shop there and tell your friends and co-workers why you don't shop at corporate places- spread the word!

Hello Community Board, NYC Planning Department, elected officials! Are you telling us through your silence that there is no way to stop the ongoing assassination of our community character and put an end to the national chain-store massacre in our neighborhood? This is a planning issue and a question of political will, and it should be (y)our resolution for 2013 to get (y)our act together. Seriously!

I won't shop there but it is by far better than the two bars it replaced.

You say that now; but when the garbage of synthetic, diabetic food litters the sidewalk along with a "bridge and tunnel" crowd both day and night, and the toxic fluorescent lights fill your eyes with cataracts, you may wish otherwise.

re: Cartknocker. Seriously ? You think people are coming from New Jersey, Queens & Brooklyn to check out the local 7-11 ? They are coming to the bars. While they are here they may stop to get cigarettes. It's not the end of the world.

Yes, seriously. For those of us who live next door to this coming dietary dump, it is quite distressing. The bridge and tunnel crowd does make itself known (be it in Santa costumes or other weekly obnoxious presentations) and I believe, as do others, that they'll be aiming for what is familiar and cheap after patronizing our neighborhood pubs. I mean, really, Anonymous, why else would 7-11 open shop here? They can't honestly think, with all their marketing expertise, that we, as locals, will shop there. So, again, "seriously."
