Receiving all sorts of emails, tweets, etc. this morning with photos of the Santa-suit-clad partygoers beginning to form packs in the East Village ...

The latest count on Facebook has 30,223 SantaCon attendees ... and that's separate from the Santa pub crawl that meets at the Village Pourhouse this afternoon... already hearing horror stories about the Santas. And this was before 10 a.m. Remember, once exposed to another Santa, the Santa virus begins mutating its host...

I confronted an NYU Bro Woo herd today in the Stuyvesant Oval since they were already screaming at 10 AM. I asked them, where’s your food, this is a charity event? Just laughter and like, dude why don’t you join us. I then asked them about the tragedy in CT. More laughter. Fuck SantaCon and fuck NYU.
Today is the holiest day on EV Heave's calendar.
BRING IT ON.
Spotted on the west side of Avenue B between 10th and 11th: http://i.imgur.com/xaU6q.jpg
@ Crazy Eddie: The only fake santa I would have a drink with is Jimmy "Popeye" Doyle in The French Connection.
I'm seriously scared to go outside... and on such a beautiful day too!
This day is a gold mine for East Villagers. It gives us something to complain and be miserable about for the next 364 days.
I'm more disappointed in their piss-poor tolerances. Did they all go to BYU?
If you think this is just a local thing it's much worse, I passed some drunken red suits and one was giving his (201) area code cell number to another. I almost felt bad for one wasted woo guy that was staggering alone down Ave B, seems he lost his pack or was kicked out for not wooing loud enough. If I wasn't such a nice guy i would have stolen his wallet such an easy target.
I think it's great that this event brings so many people to our neighborhood to spend money and have fun. Today I walked past bars that are frequently empty and there were lines to get in. Restaurants too.
Welcome to the East Village, Santas! So many people are festively and creatively dressed. Everybody was happy. Sure there's a little more noise outside my apartment tonight but that's a small price to pay for the boost to neighborhood commerce.
I support local businesses and their customers. Merry Christmas to all!
Do they not realize how stupid they look????? Such assholes! All of them!

To quote one of the bartenders at my favorite local hangout:
"They come in, take up all of the seats in the back yard, maybe 2 or 3 of them order a $2.00 beer, half of the others ask for water. Then they tip me 2 bucks. All the regulars walk out.
To follow up with Uncle Waltie - was talking to a bartender last night, and he said they also walk out without paying their checks, so no, it's not good for the businesses. I was kind of bummed to see a sign out front of William Barnacle's saying that santas were "welcome" - I thought that could be our escape!
As someone who knew Barnacle Bill well I am sure he would have knocked out some of the Santa Frat Boys on Ave. A and after doing that he would have taken their booze and shared it with his friends. Tis the season to be jolly !!!
