Davey's Ice Cream opening soon on First Avenue

As we first noted back in February, an ice cream parlor was opening at the former dry cleaners at 137 First Ave. between St. Mark's Place and East Ninth Street ... the sign went up today, as this photo via EVG regular William Klayer notes... the proprietors are hoping to open next week... dunno too much about the place at this point other than that they specialize in small batch, handmade ice cream ... they have a coming soon website...

Wooooo! Ice cream! Too bad there's no drycleaner there any more to tidy us up if we spill that SUPER-RARE frozen milk commodity on our clothes!!! Wooooo!

Because drycleaners are SUPER-RARE, too! Perfect example of people on this site complaining about independent small business opening up in a neighborhood that's fast filling up with chains.

ShutUpHippies - where are the drycleaners directly around that location?

Can't wait for my $7.00 cone !! Woo Hoo !!!

Hmm. Dry cleaning fumes vs. simmering milk and sugar fumes. ...tough call.

At least they're starting off on the right foot with a nice looking storefront/signage. We need more stuff like this and less neon/bright lights.

I like the sign. And I have been known to eat ice cream, so I will check this place out. I hope the prices aren't outrageous.

You know what would be great? A Dairy Queen! Burgers *and* ice cream! A winning combination!

don't hold your breath for anything new AND affordable with the rents landlords are charging these days.
that gourmet, artisanal, locavore, vegan, gluten-free, organic, grass-fed cow milk/cream soy produce should be called pay the rent ice-cream.
